Attorney Information

Overview

Amanda DeMatteis is a Connecticut employment lawyer who loves helping employees through tough situations at work. She has been ranked by SuperLawyers as a Rising Star, a distinction given to only 2.5% of Connecticut attorneys under the age of 40, for six consecutive years. Amanda has also been recognized by The Best Lawyers In America since 2021.

Amanda has extensive experience at every stage of representing Connecticut employees. She has helped individuals through discrimination (on the basis of race, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion, marital status, pregnancy, or national origin), sexual harassment, wrongful termination, retaliation, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, and contract disputes. Amanda has counseled employees and executives during negotiations with their employers, all the way through multiple successful jury trials, and virtually every step in between. No case is too big or too small - she has worked with employees making minimum wage and executives with compensation packages in the seven figures.

In addition to her employment practice, Amanda represents people who are injured at work or because of someone's negligence. Her injury practice includes all aspects of litigation in Connecticut courts and the Connecticut Workers' Compensation Commission. Amanda is regularly advising clients through motor vehicle accidents, slip and falls, dog bites, motorcycle accidents, and more. The injury practice is supported by our paralegal of nearly 45 years, Linda DeMatteis. And Linda just so happens to be Amanda's mom!

Amanda proudly serves as the President of the Connecticut Employment Lawyers Association (CELA), an organization for attorneys who represent employees in all aspects of employment law in Connecticut. Amanda is an active member of the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA) as an Affiliate Leader, the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA), and the American Bar Association (ABA). She also serves as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation (ABF).

Amanda has proudly been a part of the Connecticut community her entire life. A native of Hamden, Amanda earned her law degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law, where she was the Founder and President of the Labor and Employment Law Society. Amanda received her B.S. from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, where she majored in Political Science and English. She also proudly served as a congressional intern for Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT) during her college years.

Amanda lives in North Haven with her husband and their daughter, Elle. She is a fitness enthusiast and enjoys staying active with family and friends in her spare time.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
