Marina Brakefield - Waterbury, CT

Marina Brakefield is a Senior Immigration Attorney at The Welcome Law Firm, where she has spent more than 20 years helping individuals and families navigate the U.S. immigration system. She represents clients in a wide range of immigration matters, including family-based petitions, deportation defense, asylum, humanitarian relief, waivers, VAWA petitions, and naturalization.

Marina began her immigration law career in 1995, advocating for survivors of domestic violence at a shelter serving immigrant communities. Her work played a role in the development of legislation that allows certain survivors of abuse to seek lawful immigration status independently of their abusers. That protection remains an important part of immigration law today and continues to help vulnerable individuals and families build safer futures.

She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa College of Law, where she participated in the Immigration Law Clinic and worked alongside professors and attorneys on complex immigration cases. During law school, Marina received recognition for her advocacy and contributions to cases involving the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
