Hired Attorney 2017-2018Stay away from this lawyer. I was contracted with her for do my immigration case. She was not helpful and always disappear. She will tell you wrong information to move things forward then refuse to admit she was misleading. I finally got her fired and changed to another qualified lawyer who told me all the information Tina filled in is very unprofessional. Any experienced immigration lawyer would not fill anything like that. Plus she has no ability or skills in technology, I need to do all the online filing and posing for her as a client. Last but not least, she did not perform all the tasks in the contract yet(only 1 step is done), and she is claiming that we already spent all the retainer and refused to refund any money. In all, do not sign a contract with her, she is an extremely unqualified and lazy lawyer. She would spend 1h to argue with me in a 3 page long email rather than do her part right at first. I don't do reviews very often, but for her I need to cause I don't want anyone be trapped with her again. Fortunately, I got my case approved through the new lawyer.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
