Attorney Information

Overview

Bradford A. Cangro is a first chair trial lawyer who represents global companies facing intellectual property disputes in federal courts and challenges before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC). Clients around the world, particularly businesses based in Asia, rely on his responsive and strategic guidance whenever competitors infringe upon their patents, or if they themselves are accused of infringement.

With a degree in electrical engineering, Brad has a deep knowledge of and passion for the electrical and mechanical arts. His experience spans a range of tech-focused sectors, including software and hardware, wireless telecommunications, medical devices, and semiconductor manufacturing. He provides freedom-to-operate opinions on new products, anticipates possible legal challenges, and develops strategic solutions to best protect his clients' intellectual property around the globe.

Brad combines this technical knowledge with an authoritative command of all stages of U.S. patent litigation and dispute resolution, from claim construction and summary judgment hearings to trial. He represents both plaintiffs and defendants in appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, in patent litigation hotbeds like the district courts in Delaware, Texas, Virginia, and California; and in trade secret disputes in state court.

Recognized as a leading practitioner in post-grant reviews of patents by Patexia and other industry rankings, Brad regularly represents both petitioners and patent owners in post-grant proceedings, including inter partes review before the USPTO. He is also experienced in prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO and counsels clients on patent prosecution strategy. Brad was named in The Legal 500 2026 US Elite Washington, DC Edition. He was also named to Lawdragon’s 2026 and 2025 lists of 500 Leading Litigators in America. He is frequently named by Patexia Insights as a Top 250 Best Performing and Most Active Attorney for the PTAB and for Patent Litigation and greatly contributed to our firm being named by Patexia for consecutive years for outstanding work for clients before the PTAB. Brad also played a leading role in PV Law being awarded a Chambers and PARTNERS 2025 PTAB ranking for the firm’s outstanding work for clients at the PTAB. Brad has also been recognized for Intellectual Property Litigation by Super Lawyers.

Prior to Brad's legal career, he earned a B.S. in electrical engineering and served as a junior engineer for the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), where he worked on communications networks.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
