Hired Attorney 2021-2022I hired Nick Dorsten for a felony case, and I would say that he was very incompetent, ineffective and inexperienced. He worked on my case for 8 months, I literally provided all the evidence to win my case, and he didn't do a single thing. He literally sat on exculpatory evidence for 5 months, then tried to force me to take a plea because he was scared to question a little girl, when I repeatedly advised him that I was not guilty and refused to plea out and questioned his effectiveness, he became irritated. I worked with him for over 8 months and he had no defense built for a trial that was rapidly approaching in 3 days. The first time I met with him face to face was when we were sitting in court ON THE WRONG DAY because he couldn't decipher the judges direct email to him. Lol....Please be weary! I don't want to give too many details or be sued for slander, but just be careful when you’re choosing an attorney. Thankful I found an EXCEPTIONAL attorney days before my trial and they were able to get my case dismissed in 48 hours and Nick did nothing in 8 months. If I proceeded to trial, I have no doubts that I’d be sitting in a jail cell right now. He has been the most unethical, and unprofessional lawyer I’ve ever crossed paths with. I would consider doing serious research before hiring Nick and wasting thousands of dollars!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
