Attorney Information

Overview

Steve is a Board Certified Marital and Family Lawyer, a Certified Family Mediator, Collaborative Lawyer, and an Arbitrator. He handles a wide variety of marital and family law cases, with particular emphasis on divorce litigation and post-judgment modification. Having practiced law since 1979, Steve believes strongly that marital disputes can be handled in a manner that will be the least damaging to the family, and include negotiations which will arrive at a settlement with emotions on both sides held in check. Bottom line: Saving money and time.

Steve’s years of experience as a family law attorney include a great interest in the value of preserving family relationships. He helped design and create the County Clerk’s Support and Visitation Enforcement Program, for which he received the Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award. He participates in numerous other programs and organizations such as the Child Protection Team and the Children’s Alliance, and for a number of years was involved in the Guardian Ad Litem Program.

Co-author of Florida Legal Forms - Domestic Relations, published by West Publishing Company, Steve has also published “Hot Tips for Successful Mediations” in The Family Law Commentator for The Florida Bar; co-presented portions of a seminar sponsored by National Business Institute, and others. He is founding member and organizer of the Collaborative Lawyers of SW Florida and is actively involved in a number of civic organizations.

Steve was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1979. He received his B.S., cum laude, in chemistry and pre-medical studies from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida, in 1973. In May 1978 he received his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law. Honors include Dean’s List and Lawyer of the Americas Student Board.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
