Robert Kohlman is incompetent, unprofessional and arrogant. He disappears for months after being paid only to return and act like nothing happened. At first I thought maybe it was just me, as Robert was referred to me by a personal friend but after talking to other past and current clients that’s simply not the case. Currently filing a bar complaint and I encourage others to do the same. He should not be practicing law.

had the unfortunate displease of working for Robert as his sole paralegal and employee for nearly 2 years. He is the most arrogant, incompetent, and unprofessional attorney and employer in south Florida. He constantly lies and ignores clients but then has the audacity to send 6 figure bills every few months which consist of double billing and being billed for services not rendered. You would be better off representing yourself than retaining Kohlman Law.

We retained Mr. Kohlman for a Petition for Modification of Child Support and to address MSA issues. We were required to wire him his retainer (didn't accept credit cards). This was in April 2020. As of the end of June 2020 there was - in addition to Mr. Kohlman going missing for over a month - no production and no responses to my request for a refund of our retainer. I have filed a complaint with the Florida Bar and have filed a claim with the Clients' Security Fund.

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
