Hired Law firm 2018-2019I hired the law firm Peckar and Abramson in Miami, Florida, for construction defect cases. I hired Adam Handfinger and his team to represent me in several lawsuits. I am very disappointed by this firm and the way they handled my cases for some of those reasons. - When I first met Adam, he presented me a team of 4 attorneys who will work on my cases. But finally it's only a younger attorney who handled my cases without big experience in litigation. I immediately noticed that this young attorney was not efficient and I asked Adam to replace it. Adam told me he would do it but he never did. -They never reviewed my purchase agreements and pertinent documents. Adam told me I was entitled to claim loss of use/loss of income, stygma damages... however my purchase agreements contains waivers for all consequential damages. It means I was not entitled to claim for all those damages but only the cost to repair. He sent settlement demands to the other parts with unrealistic numbers with the result to delay the settlement of my cases and to increase my legal fees with his firm. -They even don't reviewed my complaints in order to amend them, to add more defendants and because of that, they missed the deadlines of the Court and it was too late to make any changes or additions. - They don't reviewed the assignments of my purchase agreements where I personally assigned those to a company. The language of the assignments was limited to the rights under those contracts. It means that I could only assign my contractual claims but not the tort claims as the fraud. However, Adam let me sue the defendants for fraud however I wasn't entitled to do it. Adam provided new amended assignments to the Court that weren't signed nor notarized. In the judgment, the Court said that those new assignments weren't admissible because unauthenticated. - Adam refused to file motion to compel documents to the Court in order to obtain documents that the defendants refused to provide. He said that he need first to depose the defendants before filing a motion to compel which is untrue. He could have filed motion to compel at anytime and ask sanctions to the defendants who refused to provide documents. Because of that, I never obtained crucial documents who could have strengthen my case. - Also, when I asked him to work on one of my cases, he told me he was too busy with another one however he took several cases at the same time. It caused me a lot of delays and credibility in front of the judge. When I met him, he told me to be able to handle all the cases simultaneously and efficiently or in fact, he didn't. - Adam never made a fees budget to litigate my cases nor evaluated my claims. - Peckar sent me billing with months of delays however the letter of engagement specifies that the billing must be each month with detailed invoices. I received 5 months of invoices in one shot. And when I asked to Peckar to send me the copies of the emails billed to check the billing, he refused. He told me that I have to pay for that. - Peckar never asked me my availability for my deposition by the defendants and the defendants filed a motion to compel deposition at the Court. I was sanctioned by the judge to pay attorney fees to the other part. This is shocking however I was available to attend deposition anytime. - I often had to send the same emails multiple times to get answers. When I asked him to meet in person at his office, he often refused and often postponed important phone calls in critical moments of my case when we needed to discuss strategy, take decision or needed deeper explanation of the situation. For those reasons, but not limited to those, I don't recommend this firm based on my own experience for a relationship of almost one year for 3 lawsuits.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
