Overview
Jodi Avila focuses her practice on appellate advocacy and complex commercial litigation. She represents clients in federal and state appellate courts in matters arising out of business disputes, including breach of contract, business tort, antitrust, and civil RICO cases. Jodi is frequently engaged to handle appeals and to advise trial counsel and clients on dispositive motion strategy, issue preservation, and case positioning at critical stages of litigation.
In addition to her appellate practice, Jodi has significant experience litigating complex commercial matters at the trial level. She has represented clients through all phases of litigation, including motion practice, discovery, evidentiary hearings, and trial, in disputes involving breach of contract, business torts, fiduciary relationships, cross-border assets, and contested trust and estate matters.
Jodi represents clients in federal and state courts and regularly serves as counsel in arbitration and mediation. Her appellate experience includes representing clients before the United States Supreme Court and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Eleventh, Federal, and D.C. Circuits. Earlier in her career, she served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Adalberto Jordan of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Jodi is actively engaged in the legal community and currently serves on the Southern District of Florida’s Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel, where she evaluates and recommends candidates for appointment to the federal judiciary. Prior to joining Jun Avila, Jodi was a litigation partner at one of the nation's premier international law firms.
