Attorney Information
Overview
Debra H. Crum grew up in Miami-Dade County Florida and moved to this area to attend University of Florida in 1973. Interrupted by family obligations, she returned to college in 1986 at the University of Florida and St. Thomas College of Law in Miami to complete her graduate studies. She is very proud to have been a JD Candidate in the first graduating class at St. Thomas the year they received their accreditation. As a socially conscious student, she was a student member of the Florida Association of Women Lawyers and participated in mock trials throughout law school. Her prior experience as a litigation paralegal prepared her well for the practice of family law, meeting integral deadlines, following court procedures, drafting legal documents and working very closely with clients.
Her work ethic is unsurpassed with a keen eye for problem solving yet she will be a compassionate advocate for you. She is a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and understands first-hand the difficulties that parents have in their co-parenting roles and the issues that arise with regard to raising children together once parties have dissolved their marriages. Debra is passionate with regard to her clients' needs, financial and child-related, and will be available to work closely with you on your case. Dedicated to handling most details of your case herself, she is always available to answer questions and strives to keep your case moving forward by all means available to her.
After working in three previous law firms since law school, Ms. Crum founded her own firm in January 2015 to offer her clients supplemental services in real estate, probate and collections in addition to her primary practice of family law.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
