Hired Attorney 2020I hired the me Law Firm to represent me on a mortgage modification. The attorney I spoke with said that as soon as I sent him the money he would get in contact with the underwriter that same day. I sent Elizabeth all the papers requested and payment this was on June 4th 2020 and signed the contract. Elizabeth is a very nice person. They asked for more money in July and sent me a new contract. That seemed strange. They had done nothing. In August they asked for more money again. I replied, that they needed to show me that they were doing something or return my money. I was sent an email stating that they were no longer representing me because we are "not a fit." Nothing was done until July 27th two months later. How dare I ask to show me prove that things are being worked on. You are right Mr. Adam Russo, we are "not a fit." My attorney works for me not the other way around. The Florida Bar should take a look on how you treat your clients. It's not all about you. That was a lot of time wasted on a family that needed your help.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
