Hired Law firm 2024-2025This started out as a very positive experience. This was for a simple paternity case that ended before we ever even made it to pre-trial. In the beginning i felt that i hired the right people. They seemed caring, understanding, very responsive, very helpful. This was just for a paternity case so when they requested $5000.00 up front it was no problem. I figured that there was no way it would exceed that and i was basically just paying up front.I noticed that I was being charged for some things that I shouldn’t be charged for. Once I started questioning why they were billing me for certain things that they shouldn’t be billing for is when everything changed. Than it became all about the money. They wouldn’t answer me unless I sent them more and more and more money. I ended up paying them over $10,000 - $12,000 for a simple paternity case that never even made it to court. They charged me for me asking them about my own billing, they charged me to send me my own hearing dates and mediation dates, they charged me for every single email they sent me, and every single email I sent them ($10.00 - $30.00 per email/ text) even if it was a duplicate email. They charged me for automated electronic reminders for my hearings. They charged me for requesting my own legal docs and paperwork. They charged me for some "legal adv”se" they called it via email which never happened on multiple occasions. I checked those dates and times and I never asked them anything for most of the days. It was completed fabricated. The attorney was great and kind at first but half way througheverything changed and it became ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. We set up a payment plan. I paid them $5000.00 than $1500 than I was struggling financially. I told them of my situation and they put me on a payment plan of $1000.00 a month (I agreed to this and never missed a single payment). Than they said to give them another $2000.00 or they would drop me and they would refuse to finish my case (at this time, alll that was left was final sign off. We were literally right at the finish line) So since I was blackmailed into it I borrowed some money and gave it to them. 2 days later, they still drafted my account for my $1000.00 payment plan. I immedietly contacted them asking why!? I just gave you $2000.00 more! They said its still not enough that it would take another $578.50 for them to get the judge to sign off for completion of my paternity case. I thought this was rediculous but they were threating to walk waway if I didn’t so I had no choice. Than somhow they come out with another bill for unkown made up nonsense and threaten to sue me if I don’t pay them immedietly. BEWARE! If you are going through a hard time, they DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. ONLY ABOUT THE MONEY. Please see the other reviews. I am not the first person this happened to. I just saw a review from about 9 months ago from David Stewart. And he said the same thing! This is what they do! The old bait and switch! BEWARE Please see that other people have said the same exact thing. If you check THE Better business bureau someone named jamie W said the same exact thing and if you check google reviews someone named David Stewart experienced the same thing!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
