Overview
Ms. Cura is a native Floridian who was born and raised in Tampa. Ms. Cura has litigated 20 jury trials and over 750 non-jury trials since her graduation from Stetson University College of Law in 2000. Most recently, Ms. Cura served the people of the State of Florida as an Assistant State Attorney for the 13th Judicial Circuit for almost 13 years. During her tenure with the State Attorney's Office, Ms. Cura served the people in the felony division and was later promoted to the Economic Crime division. As a prosecutor in the Economic Crime division, Ms. Cura litigated complex insurance fraud to include staged car accident cases for over two years.
During the last few years as an Assistant State Attorney Ms. Cura was the sole prosecutor litigating all the Baker Act proceedings at multiple psychiatric receiving facilities throughout Hillsborough County. Consequently, Ms. Cura has an expertise in Mental Health Law, more specifically Baker Acts, Marchman Acts and Civil Commitments of incompetent non-restorable intellectually disabled and mentally ill defendants.
During law school Ms. Cura was a member of the International Legal Fraternity of Phi Delta Phi and completed an internship in the Family Law Division with Chief Judge Ronald Ficarrotta of the 13th Judicial Circuit in Tampa.
Prior to law school, Ms. Cura graduated from the University of South with a Bachelors of Arts in Education in 1990. While working at a nonprofit drug treatment facility as a crisis intervention specialist, case manager and probation officer for DUI offenders she continued her education. Ms. Cura completed her Masters of Science in Psychology from Nova Southeastern University in 1994. After graduation Ms. Cura worked as a Mental Health Therapist in a psychiatric hospital during which time she obtained her certification as a county and family mediator.
Over the last 7 years, Ms. Cura volunteered as an audit committee member for the Florida West Coast Credit Union. As an audit committee member she conducted various audits on five branches of the Florida West Coast Credit Union to assure compliance with the applicable laws and regulations. On a personal note, Ms. Cura is married to a cardiologist and has three children.
Ms. Cura joined Morgan & Morgan's Personal Injury Protection, PIP litigation department.
