Mathew D. Emerson - St. Petersburg, FL

Matthew Emerson has been a practicing trial lawyer for over nineteen years. He has been trial counsel on numerous cases resulting in jury verdicts, judgments, or settlements in excess of $1,000,000.00.

Matt received his juris doctorate degree from Stetson University College of Law in 1993 where he graduated cum laude. During law school, he received numerous awards including Dean's Lists, honors scholarships, and book awards.

Following a clerkship, he was hired as an associate attorney with Rwyant, Alvarez, Jones, Russo & Guyton, P.A., a well-respected law firm in Tampa, Florida.

During his time with the Rwyant law firm, he represented numerous insurance companies, including Auto Owners Insurance Company, State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, Michigan Millers Insurance Company, Geico Insurance Company, and Traveler's Insurance Company, and gained valuable insight as to how insurance companies evaluate and value claims by injured parties.

In 2001, Matt joined Justin C. Johnson and Associates, P.A., a law firm dedicated to representing injured persons. During his time, he had the pleasure of solely representing catastrophically injured individuals against large corporations including Walmart, Dillard's Department Stores, Allstate Insurance, Bally Fitness Centers, State Farm Insurance, Kindercare Learning Centers, Lexus of Tampa Bay, Florida Pool Products, Inc., and Knowledge Learning Corporation.

Matt and his law partner, Wes Straw, co-founded Emerson Straw PL in 2010 to exclusively represent individuals who have been wrongfully injured or whose family members have been killed as the result of negligence by corporations, nursing homes, medical facilities, physicians, or other careless individuals. As a seasoned personal injury attorney in St. Petersburg, Matt can help with a wide array of cases.

Matt is AV Rated Preeminent by Martindale Hubbell and is a member of the Florida Bar, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, as well as the St. Petersburg Bar Association.

Matt was born in Bay City, Michigan and currently lives in Tierra Verde, Florida with his wife and three daughters.
