Jaimie was hired after i was ridiculously overcharged by the police, which then got increased even more after hiring her. She never spoke to me or let me know what was happening in my case. Once my court date arrived she invited me to her officer where I thought we would talk about what happened. Nope, she put a plea deal in front of me which showed that I was going to be charged with the same felony, but with an additional felony on top of that. She said if I didnt sign the plea deal I would go to prison for the rest of my life. I was terrified of going to prison for the rest of my life over something I had no control over and she took advantage of that. She never talked to me once to get my side of what happened, she did not look at the evidence against me or even request it. It took me two months of nagging her to get it AFTER the plea deal she made for me. Which ended up just being my accusers statement and a video of the police attacking me for no reason. Im pretty sure the only reason the prosecutor is acting so oblivious to this is because he doesn't want the police officers charged since part of my plea deal was I couldn't press charges against the police for beating me so bad I was admitted to the hospital. When I asked her a legal question she answered with "LOL, Where did you go to law school?" I dont know who wrote her other reviews but I do not believe for a second they are true.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
