Hired Law firm 2019My wife Tammy and I worked with Carolyn Butler Norton to update our estate planning documents including wills, revocable trust, powers of attorney, medical directives, etc. Ms. Norton and her staff made the process very easy and it was a pleasure working with her and her staff. I highly recommend her services.

Hired Law firm 2014-2021My brother and his wife both developed medical issues during the. summer of 2014, and since I was living in New York, I was not familiar with how to handle the many obvious and not so obvious issues that would need to be faced. Arriving in Vero Beach for a week in mid-July and with the guidance of a relative who is a Florida attorney and her associates, Carol Butler Norton was recommended as the person whom I should contact. That recommendation was fortuitous because we got along very well and the items that needed to be accomplished were completed quickly and thoroughly. All the necessary documents were prepared, signed and notarized and subsequently did what they were designed to do since that time. This past year, I once again contacted Atty Norton and in a short time had several of the documents updated because of the death of a person listed in those documents. All our associations have been cordial, efficient and completed very reasonably. I send my best wishes to her along with my thanks for all she has done.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
