    Hired Attorney 2024-2025
I chose to work with Jack Pugh based on his Avvo rating. This is possibly the worst decision I have made in my life…… I originally requested that Jack Pugh review a 32-page prenup agreement that was completed by my soon to be wife’s attorney. The text of our written communication via Avvo is below: My Question: Dear Jack Pugh Jr., How much would you charge to review a 32-page prenuptial agreement written by my soon to be wife's attorney? I am only interested in a flat fee quote and not an hourly quote with a retainer. Pugh’s response: I would review and offer my opinion for $600.00 payable by Zelle. My response: Does your flat fee quote include the following: 1) Explaining any legal items to me that I don't understand 2) A written report explaining the items I don't understand 3) A written report including your recommendations and suggestions 4) Communicating with opposing counsel on any items that need to be discussed? 5) Redlining the existing prenup as it is currently written Pugh’s response: For the level and detail requested my price would be $1,000.00. The written agreement specifically includes all the above as per the screenshot below. Regarding the scope of representation per contract: Jack Pugh did review the draft document (#1) but did not explain any legal items to me and certainly did not provide me with a written report of explanation (#2) when requested during our call. In addition, Jack Pugh did not provide me with a written report including any attorney’s recommendations and suggestions (#3) when requested during our call. Jack Pugh did not communicate even once with opposing counsel regarding items that needed to be discussed (#4) and did not redline the existing draft prenup as it was currently written (#5). Regarding the redlining of the agreement I believe Jack Pugh does not have Microsoft Word thus the reason for no redline. My soon to be wife’s attorney stated he did not redline a document on another case he had with Jack Pugh. In addition, when Jack Pugh returned the document to me instead of having the 32 pages in the original draft there were an additional +-5 pages. When I asked the reason for the extra pages, Jack Pugh had no explanation. I believe it was because Jack Pugh was not using Microsoft Word and most likely instead used old technology like WordPerfect. Since Jack Pugh did not complete items 2-5 as is clearly stated in the contract, I requested a refund of $600. I arrived at this reduced amount considering Jack Pugh charges $400/hr. and was certainly willing to pay for the 1 hour of his time to read the agreement. Jack Pugh refused to provide me with any refund whatsoever!! It is quite evident why Jack Pugh wanted me to pay upfront via Zelle and not credit card because he knows that a payment on Zelle cannot be disputed. When I sent Jack Pugh a screenshot of items 2-5 in the scope of representation asking him to provide a written response showing proof of completion of items 2-5, he never responded to this particular request. When it came time to notarize my signature Jack Pugh told me that he is not a notary and instead wanted to drive from central Broward to Palm Beach to meet me at a UPS store so I can pay for a notary and pay for 2 witnesses. What a nerve he had to ask me to do this. This is very unprofessional! I have worked with attorneys over the years for my businesses and homes and I have never known of an attorney that is either not a notary or does not have a notary in his/her office. It goes without saying that I will never use or recommend Jack Pugh to anyone. I have filed a complaint with the Florida Bar and completed 1-star reviews on several other websites. DO NOT HIRE!!! Stay far away from Jack Pugh, attorney unless you want to get RIPPED OFF !!!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
