Hired Attorney 2019-2020***DO NOT TRUST THIS CROOK*** I unfortunately hired James T. Joiner to write a "trust" as a way to protect my large savings while I underwent back/neck surg, so I would not lose my health ins by keeping the money in my own acct. I am only in my 30's, of sound mind and have NO guardian or POA. Unbeknownst to me, Joiner drew up an deceptive document and appointed a complete stranger; Sara Fuentes of Integrity Guardianship and Senior Services, to be in charge of my account, while he told me I would remain in control of my acct. at all times. He will not even allow me to appoint my mother or pastor to become my trustee after I'd realized he lied to me! I have now had to spend several thousand to hire a new Elder Law Atty. in attempts to gain my OWN money back!! Not only am I being denied use of my funds but the WORST part is that I DID NOT sign any sort of fee agreement with either of these two, while they have STOLEN thousands from me in 7 mos. I PRAY TO GOD THIS EVIL MAN IS PUNISHED!!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
