Overview

Byron M. G. Sanford is a Partner at Briskin, Cross & Sanford, LLC, where he chairs the firm’s Technology and Internet Law and Labor and Employment practice groups. With more than 30 years of experience, Byron advises technology companies, professional service organizations, and other privately held businesses on a wide range of corporate, transactional, and regulatory matters.

His practice encompasses technology law, including internet and data privacy, cybersecurity, and software licensing; intellectual property, including trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets; business and commercial transactions, such as mergers and acquisitions and partnership and LLC structuring; and employment law, including executive agreements, compliance, and employment litigation. Known for his ability to bridge the gap between law and business, Byron works closely with clients to implement legal strategies that promote growth, mitigate risk, and drive long-term success.

Before joining Briskin, Cross & Sanford in 2004, Byron founded and managed his own successful law practice serving the legal needs of technology, construction, and real estate development companies. He also serves as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia, representing the Georgia Department of Human Services in civil litigation within the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit.

Byron is licensed to practice in all Georgia state and local courts, including the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He is a member of the Technology, Intellectual Property, Business, and Labor & Employment Sections of the Georgia Bar Association, the North Fulton Bar Association, and the Technology Association of Georgia. Byron also serves on the Board of Directors of the Alpharetta Development Authority, where he helps promote economic development and growth in the city’s business community.

A frequent lecturer and continuing legal education instructor, Byron regularly presents on technology, business, and employment law topics for the National Business Institute, Reinhardt University, and professional organizations throughout Georgia. His publications and speaking engagements have addressed emerging issues in data privacy, cybersecurity, and evolving workplace laws.

Byron earned his J.D. from the Georgia State University College of Law, where he served as President of the Moot Court Board and led award-winning national moot court teams. He received dual B.A. degrees in International Studies and German Studies from Emory University.

Active in the community, Byron serves on the Board of Directors of The Michael O’Neal Singers, a nonprofit arts organization, and on various committees at Congregation Dor Tamid, where he and his family are long-time members.

Your Profile?  Update Now

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
