Verified ClientHired Attorney 2021-2023A real fighter who truly cared about my case, I felt so much better knowing we had someone like Mike on our side. He handled it from beginning to settlement, I hope none of my family or friends ends up needing a similar case but if they ever do I will absolutely recommend they go to Mike!

Hired Attorney 2022-2024Mr. Prieto is an amazing lawyer, the man lives and breaths helping people. When you meet him you can tell the difference between him and other lawyers who do this as a job not a mission.

Hired Attorney 2022-2024Great man who took my case after I was injured in physical rehab. I was truly blessed to have found such a good attorney who cared and handled everything so well.

Consulted Attorney 2015-2016I see there is another review similar to mine. I was referred by my attorney after the death of my husband in November, 2015. This is what I sent to my attorney: I was disappointed when I saw your latest literature mentioning Mike Prieto – even though it just states that he is a colleague who refers to you, because my experience with him, after you referred him to me, was so unbelievably terrible. When my husband became ill, the nursing home refused to call a doctor or give me the name of the doctor who worked with this nursing home. When my son in MD was able to get the doctor's name and contact him, he was not happy that we had his phone number, but he did refer my husband to a hospital, where they said he had had a stroke and he died shortly after. I was furious that they had refused to call a doctor. I contacted Mike, as you suggested. Mike never spoke to me directly, instead Susan Pollock was my contact. She asked for all kinds of paperwork, including 200 pages of hospital notes, which I sent her immediately, along with a lot of other information on his history and events leading up to his hospitalization. Time went by – I called periodically and was told they were discussing it but had not yet decided whether there was a case or not. Then Susan went on vacation – more time went by. Finally they decided they did not think there was a valid case. She said something I didn’t understand about something like the level of salt in his system which was in the hospital notes. By that time, it was too late to go to someone else. In my opinion, he does not measure up to your standards, and is completely unreliable.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
