Overview
Brandy Citizen is originally from Houma, Louisiana, but grew up in Cobb County, Georgia. Prior to graduating with a BA in Psychology from Atlanta's Spelman College in 2004, she interned with the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus and Emory University's Barton Child Welfare Clinic.
Brandy returned to Louisiana to attend Southern University Law Center in 2004. While there, she studied international law abroad at City University in London, England, interned at the New York Division of Human Rights, and worked as a criminal law research assistant. She obtained her Juris Doctorate in 2007 and retained a position as Deputy Legislative Director with the City Council of New Orleans where she partnered with the community to restore the city post Hurricane Katrina, and sat on various boards surrounding youth advocacy and environmental justice.
Upon becoming barred in the state of Louisiana in 2008, Brandy served in a dual capacity as a children's attorney and mental health advocate for the Louisiana Child Advocacy Center/Mental Health Advocacy Program. During that time she became a member of the National Association of Counsel for Children and assisted thousands of children in successfully navigating through the child welfare system.
Brandy returned to Atlanta in 2012 to start a family and a career in the practice area of Social Security Disability law. Since that time, she has practiced Social Security Disability Law in 36 states and has assisted hundreds of clients in obtaining disability benefits. She loves advocating for those in need, on and off the clock, and has a true passion for the work that she does.
