Overview
J. Bertram ("Bert") Levy has over thirty years of experience in representing national, regional, and local businesses and their owners in addition to other organizations and associations.
Bert began his career at the Atlanta law firm of Johnson and Montgomery where he handled general civil litigation, minority shareholder disputes, Chapter 11 Bankruptcy reorganizations for real estate developers and appellate work. Through the firm's representation of a local government, he also litigated civil rights claims, land use and condemnation issues and conducted over 20 jury and bench trials of property tax challenges as lead attorney within the first three years of his practice.
Bert then practiced with Louis Cohan at Weinstock & Scavo, P.C., before leaving to oversee all commercial litigation at Fine and Block where for fourteen years he helped businesses and business owners resolve ownership, management and contractual disputes, restrictive covenants, insurance coverage challenges, construction litigation, commercial and multifamily property management issues, and guided compliance with federal, state, and local laws affecting property management and development.
A native of Savannah, Georgia, Bert graduated from the University of Georgia where he was vice president of Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity before attending the UGA Law School on a full scholarship. Along with his wife, Bert raised a family in Brookhaven where he has been active in local community affairs.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
