T. Alec Chappell - Atlanta, GA

T. Alec Chappell, originally from Columbus, Georgia, is a proud Double Bear, having received both his bachelor’s degree and his law degree from Mercer University. In 2012, he graduated, summa cum laude, from Mercer’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a B.A. in political science and a minor in economics. In 2016, he received his J.D., summa cum laude and valedictorian, from Mercer Law School. During law school, Alec received the George Waldo Woodruff Award of Excellence for graduating first in his class, served on the Mercer Law Review, and earned 13 CALI Excellence for the Future Awards for the highest grade in a particular class.

After law school, Alec clerked from 2016–2017 for the Honorable C. Ashley Royal of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. Then, in 2017, he moved to Savannah to clerk for the Honorable Edward J. Coleman III of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Georgia. He served as Judge Coleman’s career clerk from 2017–2026. In 2024, Alec taught two semesters of legal writing as an adjunct professor of law at Mercer Law School.

Alec is admitted to practice in all Georgia state and superior courts, the Court of Appeals of Georgia, the Supreme Court of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Alec is an active member of several professional organizations, including the State Bar of Georgia, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the W. Homer Drake Jr. Georgia Bankruptcy American Inn of Court, the Federal Bar Association, and the Emory Bankruptcy Developments Journal Notes and Comments Advisory Committee. From 2024–2025, he served as President of the Savannah Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. From 2024–2026, he served as the State Bar of Georgia’s Young Lawyers Division’s YLD Review Newsletter Co-Editor.

Outside of work, Alec enjoys reading about ancient history, travelling the world, working out in the gym, and spending time outdoors.
