Attorney Information
Overview
Ben Finley is one of Georgia’s premier triple threat litigators, and is uniquely skilled and experienced in prosecuting, defending, and mediating litigated matters at the highest levels. Ben's primary career focus has been on wrongful death, complex litigation, and class action work, through which he has demonstrated exceptional legal prowess.
Raised in Columbus, Georgia, Ben was born the son of successful trial attorney, Jim Finley, so the pursuit of justice comes natural to him. Ben draws inspiration from his Mother, Betty Finley, who he describes as the hardest working person he has ever known.
Ben attended Brookstone School in Columbus before attending Auburn University where he obtained a degree in Business Administration. After college, Ben attended the University of Georgia School of Law, where he served as President of his law school class. After graduation, he joined a prestigious Atlanta law firm, quickly establishing himself in general civil litigation.
Living in Atlanta and Columbus, Ben has friends and family throughout Georgia and Alabama, and he practices in the state and federal courts of both states. With a wealth of experience, he has successfully prosecuted and defended numerous multi-million dollar claims for individuals and corporations. His expertise is sought after, having authored several influential articles on litigation and being a featured speaker at seminars across the Southeast. Ben also serves the State of Georgia as a Special Assistant Attorney General, tackling complex litigated matters with precision and dedication.
As a certified mediator and arbitrator, Ben's extensive experience allows him to effectively mediate and arbitrate a wide variety of civil matters. Recently, Ben served as the mediator for one of the largest pre-trial wrongful death settlements in Georgia history.
Ben has a niche practice in Sports Law and his experience is vast, having represented hundreds of professional and collegiate athletes over the past 30 years in concussion-related injuries and contractual negotiations. With the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in N.C.A.A. v. Alston, Ben has been at the forefront of negotiating Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) agreements, championing the rights of collegiate athletes.
Ben goes the extra mile to give back to his community. Ben serves on the Auburn University School of Business Advisory Council, a role appointed by the Dean, and has shared his knowledge as an adjunct professor at the University of Georgia School of Law, teaching a course he designed, “Beginning, Building, and Maintaining a Law Practice.” He is a contributor to the Annual Phoenix Initiative/Tommie Robinson Camp and is regularly featured as a guest speaker on the Sports Visions radio podcast.
In Ben's free time, you will find him spending time with his children, Will and Elizabeth, working out at the gym, or watching his favorite television show, “The Beverly Hillbillies,” who despite their change in circumstances, always stayed true to themselves.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
