Overview

Katie received her bachelor’s degree in 2002 from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. She earned her Juris Doctor from The Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan in 2006. During her last semester in law school, Katie was an extern for The Honorable Thomas I. Vanaskie, United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Katie was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 2006. Upon graduation, Katie accepted a position as an assistant public defender in the Waycross Judicial Circuit. Katie then transferred to the Southern Judicial Circuit serving as an assistant public defender in Moultrie, Georgia.

After the public defenders office, Katie established a vibrant domestic relations and criminal defense practice at the preeminent law firm of Langdale Vallotton, LLP in Valdosta Georgia. While at Langdale Vallotton, LLP, Katie had notable cases one which involved the novel issue of cell phone searches with warrants. In the case of Hawkins v. State, Katie appealed to the Georgia Supreme Court the issue of cell phone searches incident to arrest without a warrant. Katie argued the State had a duty to procure a warrant. The Georgia Supreme Court ultimately ruled that a warrant was not needed to search a cell phone, but then was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court. Katie was quoted by the Fulton Daily Times on the Supreme Court's decision. She said: " I think what the opinion says is privacy is still valued in our country and there needs to be checks and balances to ensure it’s upheld, even if there are costs associated with it.”

Katie is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Valdosta Bar Association, the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Valdosta Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Katie concentrates her practice in criminal defense and domestic relations. She represents clients in felony, misdemeanor, and traffic cases. Katie also represents clients in contested and uncontested divorces, child-custody hearings, alimony and child support hearings, adoptions, and post-divorce proceedings.

On a regular basis Katie attends seminars to stay up to date on the latest case law and techniques in the practice of law.

Katie will take weekend appointments.
