Customer Reviews for Barbara L. Franklin, Esq. Attorney at Law

Hired Law firm 2022-2023I am extremely frustrated with Ms. Franklin’s services. I initially hired her to assist with registering my CPR documents, later requesting letters to resolve neighbor disputes. While she initially wrote a letter to Neighbor 1, she did not follow through with a letter addressing similar disputes with Neighbor 2 and their tenants, despite my repeated requests. I later discovered that Ms. Franklin had failed to disclose a conflict of interest stemming from her personal relationship with Neighbor 2. She repeatedly asked for specific documents, which she claimed were necessary to draft the dispute letter against Neighbor 2, yet whenever I provided them she either seemed confused or requested information she should have been able to obtain herself. Throughout this entire process, she continued to charge my credit card for research that was never performed. Frustrated with her lack of progress and transparency, I terminated our contract, requesting she return my documents and furnish the second letter I had paid for. Refusing to furnish me with the letter, I then requested a refund of the monies paid for that letter, but she refused. I even went so far as to request a mediation, and those calls have been met with refusal as well. Her actions have ultimately left me feeling robbed and without the means to properly address my situation.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
