Born and raised in Honolulu, Mr. Kobayashi received his Bachelor of Art degree in Business and Administrative Studies from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon and his Juris Doctor degree from Seattle University School of Law.
In 1995, Mr. Kobayashi started his practice with the Honolulu law firm of Kobayashi, Sugita & Goda. In 2007, then a partner with the firm handling complex commercial litigation and construction litigation matters, Mr. Kobayashi left the island and his practice to serve as General Manager for hotel and restaurant in Washington state’s Orcas Island. There he was responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day business operations for both the transient accommodations and the food & beverage/catering services.
Additionally, he handled all short and long term financial and organizational planning, marketing, communications, human resources, business development, contract negotiations, drafting and administration, payroll and corporate filings.
In 2014, Mr. Kobayashi returned to Honolulu to serve as President and CEO of Ahahui Koa Anuenue, a designated fundraising non-profit corporation supporting the University of Hawaii Athletic Department, responsible for raising over six million dollars annually through premium ticket and parking sales and booster club contributions.
In 2017, Mr. Kobayashi returned to his law practice with Kobayashi Sugita & Goda, initially as an Of Counsel and eventually as partner, where he resumed his focus on commercial litigation.
In 2024, Mr. Kobayashi decided to shift the focus of his law practice and joined Greg Ryan & Associates where he now handles all aspects of family law. He is an experienced and skilled litigator and an effective agent for resolution, whether advocating on your behalf, or working collaboratively with both parties towards a mediated agreement.
