McConnell Wagner Sykes + Stacey PLLC
Boise Employment law Lawyer
Overview
Jeff R. Sykes is one of the firm’s founders and is sought out to advise and represent clients on a variety of employment, personal injury, real estate and complex commercial litigation. His expert knowledge of trade secret litigation, fraud claims, sexual harassment claims, age, disability and other discrimination claims as well as wage claims, and breach of warranty and defective product litigation make him a go-to advisor for many area business owners and human resource professionals. From negotiations to drafting and enforcement of employment contracts, employee manuals, non-competition agreements, and non-disclosure agreements, Jeff knows the business implications of law as well as he knows law itself.
What’s more, Jeff is a versatile litigator with a well-earned reputation for accuracy, fairness and tenacity regardless of which side of the case he is on. Beyond the courtroom Jeff is skilled in arbitration and mediation of claims and disputes, construction claims and defense as well as real estate matters including title claims, easement disputes, access and boundary disputes.
A native of the San Francisco Bay area, and graduate of both Cal State Chico and Gonzaga University Law School, Jeff, along with his wife and two children, have been in Boise since 1993. Outside work he enjoys travel with his family, golf, Boise State sporting events and time permitting, a ride on his Harley. He gives back to the community through his involvement with the Treasure Valley YMCA youth government program as well as previous volunteer efforts for the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
