Attorney Information

Overview

Associate Attorney, Philip Mendoza, was born and raised in Southern California and graduated from DePaul University College of Law in 2014 with a Certificate in Family Law. Philip has a passion for family law which he developed through law school and through each position he has held since graduation. He also attained a Family Law Mediator Certification from Northwestern University in 2021. Philip is passionate, extremely knowledgeable, tenacious, and greatly experienced in serving a diverse range of clients who have complex financial cases and delicate child-related, parental issues.

Philip has over a decade of trial experience in a vast array of family law cases, big and small. Philip has also successfully prosecuted and defended many claims and defenses related to Orders of Protection in Illinois courts. His approach provides multi-faceted solutions to clients focusing on resolution through negotiations and settlement or agreements reached through intensive court intervention in what are called pre-trial conferences. A pre-trial conference is one of the last options a court has to reach resolution without trial, typically after much information has been exchanged and a court can provide recommendations on contested issues that have been carefully crafted and brought to the judge in chambers. Philip is always happy to discuss matters large and small with his clients and is adept at providing advice regarding our clients’ cases and other struggles they may be experiencing. Philip also prides himself on his ability to guide clients and their families through difficult situations while providing a roadmap for their future.

More recently, in 2024, Philip participated in Collaborative Law training and is officially certified in Illinois to undertake matters in collaborative divorce. This allows Philip the ability to provide agreeable clients with a unique approach to divorce through this collaboration process. Collaborative divorce is a commitment by each of the parties in a divorce situation to work together with the help of attorneys and other collaborative-minded professionals to resolve their divorce completely without ever bringing contested issues to the Judge in court. This is a modern approach to divorce and allows both parties to have the final agreement over their own lives instead of having a judge make rulings based on only snapshots that can be provided through the course of a trial. In collaborative divorce, the parties are empowered to make the most important decisions in their divorce when completed in this manner and thus avoid the high costs, tension, and stresses that are inherent to family law trials.

Philip undoubtedly cares about our clients and is able to handle large and small cases from beginning all the way through trial if necessary. Philip if a big NFL fan and wants our clients to know that he is a fiercely loyal family man himself and wants the best for our clients and their families. He has a calm demeanor but can be fierce in the courtroom at any time it is called for.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
