Attorney Information

Overview

Kelly T. Crosby was raised in Marion, Williamson County, Illinois where her father is a successful attorney and her mother a special education teacher. By their example, she appreciates that a key measure of professional success is, simply, the ability to effectively help others. She approaches her work for our clients with that ambition – coupled with determination to prove to judges and juries that our clients’ cases are well founded, well supported, and deserving of a positive result.

She worked as a Law Clerk for the Hon. G. Patrick Murphy in the Southern District of Illinois from the time she graduated law school until the Judge’s retirement, gaining invaluable insight into federal trial practice.

She earned her J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law after graduating from the University of Notre Dame with degrees in psychology and sociology and after working in Chicago, Illinois at Misericordia Home, a residential facility for adults and children with developmental disabilities.

In law school, she excelled in the Juvenile Law and Justice Clinic where she represented children at the Family Court Center in St. Louis County, Missouri. Her note ‘The United States and Iraq: Plant Patent Protection and Saving Seed’ was published in the Washington University Global Studies Law Review. She also completed a summer internship with the United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Missouri.

Before joining Keefe, Keefe & Unsell, she practiced as a litigator in St. Louis for a prominent regional defense firm.

As the associate attorney at Keefe, Keefe & Unsell, she focuses her practice on all matters of personal injury and wrongful death, specializes in research and writing, and works alongside some of the most tenacious, successful, and creative trial lawyers in the state.

Kelly and her husband, a Union Laborer, have a son and a daughter and live in Madison County, Illinois.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
