Andrew W. Mason is a founding associate Chicago personal injury attorney with Smith LaCien LLP. The firm has secured more than $3 billion in settlements and verdicts and has more than 100 settlements and verdicts that exceed $1 million.
Andrew has a broad range of experience in litigating complex civil matters and has worked on cases involving wrongful death and catastrophic injuries, including brain injuries, amputations, paralysis, severe burns, and other serious disabilities.
Andrew became passionate about representing injured individuals after one of his siblings was in a horrific and life-changing motor vehicle accident. He understands the impact that injuries can have on both individuals and their families and the importance of obtaining a Chicago car accident attorney that will put in the time and effort to ensure that his or her clients receive sufficient compensation for their injuries. He knows that it is critical to be accessible and responsive to his clients at all stages of their cases.
Before helping start Smith LaCien LLP with Todd A. Smith and Brian LaCien, Andrew assisted in litigating complex corporate bankruptcies at a large law firm in Chicago and worked as an attorney and law clerk for Todd and Brian at their previous firm, Power, Rogers & Smith, LLP. He was employed in the banking and financial services industry at both a large international investment bank and a top-performing Chicago-based investment fund.
Some of Andrew’s notable matters include a $9.2 medical malpractice and products liability settlement, a $30.5 million construction wrongful death and punitive damages settlement; the Sterigenics Ethylene Oxide Litigation Settlement; a $9.5 million settlement for a plaintiff that suffered a brain injury after his bicycle wheel became lodged in an exposed streetcar rail; an $11.5 million settlement in a Grain Elevator Explosion settlement; a $7.375 million medical malpractice settlement; a $2.8 million settlement in a trucking case where he was able to sustain a claim for shipper and broker liability; and a $1.965 million settlement in a trucking wrongful death case where the driver sustained severe burns and later died from his injuries. Andrew has also worked on many other cases involving trucking accidents, premises liability, medical malpractice, aviation crashes, grain elevator explosions, industrial accidents, and toxic industrial emissions.
While Andrew was in law school, he was a judicial extern for the Honorable Judge Eugene Wedoff at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois and was a summer associate at a commercial litigation firm in Chicago. He has been an adjunct law professor at Chicago-Kent College of Law since 2017.
