Attorney Information
Overview
John W. Chwarzynski Jr. is a dedicated trial attorney who represents individuals and families facing the devastating consequences of serious personal injuries, wrongful death, medical malpractice, sexual assault, construction accidents, and other complex negligence claims. Known for his tenacious advocacy, strong courtroom presence, and meticulous preparation, John has built a practice focused on obtaining meaningful results for clients when they need an advocate most.
Since being admitted to practice law in Illinois in 2017, John has represented clients in state and federal court and has successfully argued matters before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. His practice encompasses complex personal injury, medical malpractice, and wrongful-death litigation.
John has secured millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements for his clients. Among his reported results are a $7.25 million settlement for a client who suffered severe injuries after being electrocuted at a construction site, an $1.8 million verdict in a sexual-assault and negligent-security case, and a number of substantial recoveries involving train and automobile accidents, premises liability, medical malpractice, nursing-home negligence, and other serious personal injuries.
John's courtroom accomplishments have earned recognition from several legal organizations and publications. He has been selected as an Illinois Super Lawyers Rising Star, an honor recognizing a select group of attorneys based on professional achievement and peer recognition. He has also been recognized among America's Top 100 Personal Injury Attorneys, named among The National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40, and recognized for Top 100 and Top 50 Verdicts in Illinois.
John earned his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in 2017 and his B.A. from Lake Forest College in 2011. The son of a union family, John learned from an early age the importance of hard work, perseverance, and standing up for others. He carried those values onto the football field as a scholar-athlete at Maine South High School and later as a quarterback at Lake Forest College. Today, he brings that same competitive spirit and determination to the courtroom.
Outside of his legal practice, John is committed to mentoring young student-athletes and giving back to the community through pro bono legal work. He has also been involved with the Young Champions Committee for the Alzheimer's Association Chicago Rita Hayworth Gala. He is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and American Association for Justice.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
