Mr. Homsy is licensed before the Supreme Courts of Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin, and before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Joe partners with his clients and focuses on providing them with preventative advice and counsel that is meant to protect them in an effort to help them grow and build their businesses. He also works on reaching efficient and effective resolutions during pre-suit, and in-suit, claims.
Joe takes the phrase “pay it forward” to heart and acts on it when he can. He has been blessed with great mentors throughout his life and he strives to do the same for others. He has served as a mentor to high-school, college, and law students, as well as ALG’s law clerks and new associates. Moreover, he is heavily involved in the Arab American Bar Association of Illinois (“AABAR”), currently serving as its Corresponding Secretary – the public relations role. Joe has also served as a CoChair of AABAR’s Community Service Committee, during which he organizes its Annual Thanksgiving Meal Drive and its Annual Back-to-School Backpack Drive.
Outside of his work, Joe’s interests include spending time with his wife and family, traveling, photography, cheering on Liverpool F.C. (YNWA), and baseball. He also serves as the Executive Producer of the Non-Billable Hour Podcast, which is hosted by ALG’s two partners, Daniel J. Arnett and Bethany N. White. How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
