Overview

Norman J. Lerum was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1975. He is a member of the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, including the Federal Trial Bar, and the United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit. He is also a member of the United States Claims Court and the United States Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit.

Mr. Lerum graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A., cum laude and Notre Dame Law School with a J.D. in 1974. While in law school, he was the recipient of the Dean’s Award and member of the National Moot Court team.

He was an instructor in legal research and writing at Loyola University Law School. He assisted in the formation, and design, as well as taught in the trial practice course sponsored by the Chicago Bar Association for admission to the Federal Trial Bar. He has taught at the Insurance School of Chicago and has participated in continuing legal education programs as a lecturer.

Mr. Lerum began his career as Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Joseph Burke, Illinois Appellate Court, 1974-1976. He has served on numerous Chicago Bar Association committees including chairing the Committee on evaluating Devitt recommendations regarding trial practice requirements in federal court and Judicial Evaluation of prospective members of the bench. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association. He maintains an active trial and appellate practice.
