Absolutely Remarkable!!! Jim Ryan is a phenomenon with his knowledge of the law and court room skills. Long story short; I have an extensive criminal record that includes dozens of felonies. When I met Jim, I was already counseled by another attorney. I had multiple charges spread across several counties, was in custody at the time and faced another 10 years of incarceration. My situation was bleak. I was able to use the rehabilitation courses that was available to me while in custody to better my future. When I was able to bond out, I furthered that that education. I took the steps necessary to not go back to incarceration. Even with all the tools at my disposal, I only had one true hope. It was an educated attorney that would be able to defend my position in the court of law. Luckily, I had Jim Ryan. I do not exaggerate when I tell you what happened was nothing short of a miracle. What Judge and District Attorney would see this old crook and drug addict in this new light of rehabilitation? Only the best would be able to strategically walk me through the time and court dates to prove that I no longer deserved the original offer of 10 years. After, months of planned procedure and court appearances, my cases in each county began to come to conclusion. The First county concluded with 2 years probation!!! And the successive ones followed suit. Concluding my journey of over a year in the court room with concurrent probation. From 10 years incarceration pleaded down to 2 years probation. I would say no other attorney could’ve achieved this task. I believe that fateful day in the court room when Jim Ryan filled in for my previous attorney that he was a God Send. I highly recommend Jim Ryan and believe he is in the top tier of his field. He was worth every dollar spent. The time he was able to give me in freedom, was worth many times more than what he was paid.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
