Michelle Edens was born and raised in the Chicagoland area. She earned a Bachelor's Degree with Honors from Southern Illinois University, a Master’s Degree from William Woods University in Missouri with High Honors, and a Juris Doctorate from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in California.
Before joining Ramsell and Associates as an associate attorney, Michelle spent years working in a private practice criminal defense firm where she developed keen legal research and legal writing skills. She excelled in her ability to articulate complex legal issues into motions and successfully present the issues in court with positive outcomes. Since 2016, Michelle has been licensed to practice law in Illinois where she started her career as a private criminal defense attorney. For years, Michelle has zealously been defending hundreds of clients facing legal matters from minor traffic offenses to DUI, driving while license is suspended/revoked, fleeing and eluding, theft, assault and battery, drug possession and manufacturing/delivering, gun charges, forgery, to homicide cases. Additionally, her experience and dedication to working with adolescents facing criminal charges, adults struggling with addiction, and individuals with various mental health diagnosis has resulted in her clients securing positive outcomes in juvenile court, mental health court, and drug court. Her reputation as an aggressive courtroom litigator also extends to formal hearings with the Illinois Secretary of State, as well as court hearings to expunge and seal criminal records.
Michelle works diligently to advocate for her clients by aggressively negotiating positive resolutions. However, when justice requires, Michelle has earned a reputation for her ability to strategically fight and win both bench and jury trials.
Michelle was awarded, “Top 40 Trial Lawyers Under 40,” and continues to participate as an active member of the DuPage and Chicago Bar Associations.
Outside of the courtroom, Michelle enjoys traveling, spending time with her family and dogs, working out, and listening to a variety of music.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
