Overview
Mr. Bouma's practice is concentrated in the areas of income, retirement and estate planning for closely held corporations and highly compensated individuals. Mr. Bouma has been a featured seminar speaker on various topics, including the valuation of closely held business, the uses of revocable, irrevocable and charitable trusts and estate planning and the minimization of estate taxes.
Mr. Bouma received his undergraduate degree from Knox College in 1964 and his law degree from the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) in 1967. He was also awarded a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in taxation from DePaul University in 1983. He is admitted to the Bars of the States of Illinois and Washington and the U.S. Tax Court. Mr. Bouma and his family reside in Sarasota, Florida. He has been engaged in the practice of law in DuPage County since 1969.
Mr. Bouma has also been a lecturer on tax for the DuPage County Estate Planning Counsel; DuPage County Bar Association Probate and Corporation Sections; Northern Trust Company, Trust Company of Illinois; and other organizations. He is also a former instructor of business law at Elmhurst College and the College of DuPage. He is presently General Counsel of the Trust Company of Illinois. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the DuPage County Bar Association and a past member of the Illinois State Bar Association Committee on Federal Taxation. Mr. Bouma serves on the Boards of Directors of Trust Company of Illinois and Magnetic Shield Corporation.
