Super nice people! My lawyer got a modification on my home and helped me avoid bankruptcy, which is what I was hoping for since i dont owe much other debts. she walked me through everything so I wasn't nervous at all. feels good to be back on my feet!

They know nothing about communication. I had to reach out to them. They did little to "keep me in the loop". 8 out of 10 conversations were initiated by me. I did get the results I wanted but it was like pulling teeth and took a few months longer than anticipated. Little to no communication from them to me.

Steve - our ethical guidelines prevent me from discussing the details of an individuals case on a public forum. I am sorry if you felt out of the loop at any point. Please feel free to call to discuss your concerns in detail and we will definitely address them. I can say that the bankruptcy process is largely a hurry-up-and-wait type of process and unfortunately there is nothing we can do to rush the administration at the federal courthouse, and there are statutory time periods which are mandatory as well. Example - after your case is filed, you won't have your meeting with the Trustee for a month. During that month, generally nothing happens. After the meeting, it will be at least 3 more months until your discharge is issued. Again, it is rare that anything happens during the mandatory waiting period. We work very hard to keep clients advised, in detail, with all updates in their case, but due to the nature of bankruptcy cases, there will often be long periods of time when there are no updates. If at any time a client wants to call or e-mail with questions or would like a status, we are happy to do so, and you can always speak directly with your attorney. I'm glad you received the results you wanted in your case, and if you'd like to provide us with any constructive feedback I'd definitely appreciate it! You can reach me directly at Kimberly.Mouratides@gmail.com

Due to COVID I was laid off for months. My attorney helped me work it out with my mortgage company so I kept my house, and she is helping me work out all of the other debts. Awesome. Highly recommend!

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
