Hired Law firm 2024-2025Do not use Bill Harrington. I hired him for a civil divorce case. He will look at your assets and determine how to bleed you out. I spent over 150k and he still couldn’t get me to mediation. He billed me for 1500 hrs in 6 months even know he spent 4 weeks of that time on vacation. I have bare minimum time with me kids and have lost well over 50 percent of my assets and he claims to still be owed 40k and put an attorneys lean on my divorce. He will hire gal and sign off on judges he knows that will be conflictive and draw the case out for more hours. It will be 3 years in April and I still have no made it to mediation.

Consulted Law firm 2025-2026I met with Bill Harrington one time in early November, 2025 and paid his retainer fee to represent me. After that one meeting, I did not receive any follow-up or communication despite multiple calls in December and January. I was told he was on vacation and would return my call, which did not happen. After contacting his Paralegal/Legal Assistant for a fourth time, I immedicately received an email with my retainer fee sent back to me and a two sentence letter stating "I had not retained Harrington Law Firm nor the firm. I ultimately filed the legal matter myself. This review is based solely on my person experience. As a Paralegal with over 30+ years experience, this is not acceptable. Communication expectations were NOT met. This is the reason most of our society has a "sour" taste in their mouth about attorneys. Communication is key!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
