Attorney Information

Overview

George Lohmeier grew up in Clinton, Iowa and spent the first four years after high school graduation serving in the United States Navy aboard an aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt. Upon being honorably discharged, he studied at Florida State University and spent summers working as a brakeman on the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Having earned a degree in political science, he moved to Indianapolis to attend Indiana University School of Law. Three years later, in 1978, George passed the Indiana Bar Exam and began serving as deputy prosecutor in Morgan County. He later established himself in Indianapolis and began to concentrate in the areas of divorce and child custody in addition to criminal defense. With a well-established private practice, George joined the firm of Allen Wellman Harvey Keyes Cooley, LLP in 1997.

Maintaining a focus primarily on family law, George has developed an extensive practice in the family law areas of divorce and child custody for parents, grandparents and non-parents. His interest in this area of law stems back to his own childhood and his upbringing by his single father in a blended family resulting from his parents' divorce. George's practice takes him throughout the State of Indiana, as well as out of state where he has been admitted to practice in those states pro hoc vice (case by case basis). His expertise in child custody litigation extends to resolving conflicting states' orders as well as locating children who have been wrongfully removed from the State of Indiana and whose whereabouts are not specifically disclosed.

George lives in Indianapolis with his wife, Cathy, and has three grown children. Flying has been a life-long passion since the age of 17. He enjoys flying his 1948 Cessna 170 as much as possible and attending the Oshkosh Air Show in the summer to camp with other dedicated pilots.
