Overview
Since 2002, Brian has represented clients in Family Law and Personal Injury cases. While in law school, Brian worked for the Greenwood, Indiana law firm of Smart, Kessler, & Torres and remained at the different iterations of that firm for 19 years. Brian moved on from what eventually became Smart, Kessler & Lowe, LLC in June of 2019 to join Greenwood family law attorney, Jonathan Deenik.
Brian’s experience includes representing Indiana Personal Injury clients involved in semi-truck accidents, motorcycle accidents, truck accidents, pedestrian accidents, premises liability cases, and automobile accidents. Brian has helped clients navigate wrongful death and child injury cases. Serving as co-counsel, Brian has assisted in the representation of clients with civil rights, negligence, and medical malpractice claims.
Brian’s Family Law representation includes divorces, paternity actions, child custody, parenting time issues, child support, emancipation, post-secondary education (college) expenses, relocations, modifications, adoptions, guardianships, and pre-nuptial agreements. Brian practices Family Law in Johnson, Marion, and Morgan County Indiana. Brian also serves as a Registered Domestic Relations Mediator and is a Family Law Arbitrator.
In 2008, Brian became a duly appointed Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) with the Indiana State Department of Health and subsequently with the Indiana Department of Education in 2010 until shortly after the founding of Deenik Lowe. Brian’s experience in hearing cases as an ALJ provides him with a unique perspective in advocating for his own clients.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
