Attorney Information

Overview

Nicole A. Bennett is a partner and owner of Westland & Bennett P.C., with her husband, Dave. "I am honored to work every day alongside the smartest person I've ever known - even though he doesn't believe me"

Nicole grew up on the west side of Lansing, Michigan, in the small town of Potterville, aka "Gizzard City." Nicole knew she wanted to be an attorney when she was 13. This goal led Nicole to Alma College in Alma, Michigan where she graduated cum laude in 1994, having earned her bachelor's degree in 3 years.

Nicole then moved to NWI to attend Valparaiso University School of Law, only to be seriously injured in a head-on automobile collision and forced to withdraw from law school during her second semester. Nicole fought to return to law school the next year and she graduated in 1997, just 4 months behind her law school class. Nicole is straight-forward and committed and she gives this same dedication to her clients.

Nicole spent the first 6 years of her career as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney at the Office of the Lake County Prosecuting Attorney in Crown Point, Indiana. In 2004, she went into private practice where she furthers her desire to help people.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
