Attorney Information

Overview

As a former Assistant U.S. Attorney, Cari understands trial work. She has recovered statutory limits for her client in a medical malpractice action before proceeding before the full Indiana Medical Review Panel. Conversely, she has defended doctors in a medical malpractice action for the delivery of a brain damaged baby. On behalf of an insurance company client, she recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars from a third-party tortfeasor for workers compensation benefits paid to an injured employee. Cari recovered EPA cleanup cost assessed against land leased decades earlier to a trucking company. She practices in both state and federal courts.

Cari has served on the executive boards of both the Indianapolis Bar Association and the Indianapolis Bar Foundation. She was the first woman to chair the Litigation Committee of the Indianapolis Bar Association. She has served on the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission's investigatory Grievance Committee for more than 25 years. Cari co-chaired the initial Settlement Week program, sponsored by the Indianapolis Bar Association, for several years which introduced mediation to Marion County state courts and was the precursor to the Indiana Supreme Court promulgating the alternative dispute resolution rules. She also served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Subrogation Professionals (NASP).

Numerous community Boards and committees have benefited from Cari's participation including the Board of Directors for the Horticultural Society of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Broad Ripple Village Association Board of Directors, the American Lung Association of Central Indiana, and the YWCA Board of Directors.

She has argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the Indiana Court of Appeals resulting in numerous published opinions. With this experience, Cari has taught seminars for the Indianapolis Bar Association, Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum, and the NASP conference.

Your Profile?  Update Now

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
