Overview
I love what I do! Over the past 40 years I have been fortunate to be able to incorporate into my legal career the knowledge and skills I mastered when I attained my Bachelor of Science Degree from the "Indiana University of Medicine" (1973) and experience I gained as a hands-on provider of rehabilitation services to those suffering from acute disabilities (spinal cord injuries, auto accident and burn victims, stroke and other neurological disorders, amputations, surgical complications). I graduated with honors (Cum Laude) from Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis in May, 1978 and I was able to jump into law almost immediately, having taken and passed the bar exam before I graduated from law school. Although I received top honors (American Jurisprudence Award) in criminal procedure, I have always focused my practice on dealing with people who are seeking legal advice due to their personal struggles - whether it be from the emotional stress and mental anguish connected with divorce and post divorce issues or the physical and emotional pain that results from traumatic injuries.
My husband and other senior partner Alvin Katzman and I are honored to work with six other outstanding lawyers in our firm. Our love of assisting people with their legal issues, is well-reflected by the fact that our daughters both chose to become lawyers. We are blessed to work side-by-side with them in and out of the courtroom.
We have also been privileged and personally gratified to participate alongside with the members of our firm in many philanthropic endeavors that are dear to our hearts. We have assisted in preparing and serving meals to families staying at the Ronald McDonald House, raised money for and walked in fundraisers for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the Walk to End Alzheimer's, and other worthy causes.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
