Attorney Information
Overview
Ted joined the firm as a partner in 1999 after having practiced law for a large national insurance company.
Ted's practice is focused in the insurance defense area. Ted defends personal injury cases, construction accident cases, legal and medical malpractice cases, environmental cases, and suits against governmental entities and their employees. His diverse trial experience ranges from termite infested houses to slander and defamation to wrongful death. He has also argued in front of the Indiana Court of Appeals and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Prior to practicing law Ted was a Lieutenant with the Indiana State Police. He left the Indiana State Police to begin practicing law. Ted is also a Lieutenant Colonel with the Indiana National Guard where he serves as the state Equal Opportunity Advisor to the Adjutant General. Ted recently completed a six month mobilization where he served in the Pentagon as the administrative officer for The Office for the Administrative Review of the Detention of Enemy Combatants, a joint service organization conducting review boards for detainees in Cuba.
In his spare time Ted continues to serve in the Indiana National Guard. His avocation is golf and he hits the ball well enough to play in various statewide tournaments, sometimes making the cut. Ted and his wife Joyce have two adult daughters, both of whom are Indiana University graduates.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
