He earned his undergraduate degree from DePauw University, where he was an accomplished student-athlete and member of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society. While at DePauw, he was named to the Deanâs List, recognized as a Division III Academic All-American nominee, and selected by his teammates as Co-Captain of both the football and track & field teams. He earned his Juris Doctor from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
During law school, Tyler was selected for the McKinney Trial Team and named to the Deanâs List. He received the G. Kent Frandsen Scholarship in recognition of his leadership and community involvement and was actively involved in Moot Court, the Criminal Law Society, Equal Justice Works, and both the Health and Human Rights Clinic and Criminal Defense Clinic. Through these experiences, he advocated for clients in matters involving wage theft, unemployment claims, and criminal defense. He also interned with the Lake County Prosecutorâs Office and clerked at a general practice law firm, gaining experience across a broad range of criminal and civil matters.
Following law school, Tyler served for five years as a Trial Attorney with the Marion County Public Defender Agency in Indianapolis. In that role, he represented individuals facing misdemeanor and felony charges and handled complex cases involving significant liberty interests. During his tenure, he was selected to attend and successfully complete the Faubush Trial Institute.
After his time with the Public Defender Agency, Tyler transitioned into private practice with Hankey Marks & Crider before eventually returning home to Northwest Indiana. His practice experience includes criminal defense, Social Security Disability, and civil litigation.
