Our Founder
Frederick R. Hovde founded the Hovde Dassow + Deets law firm. He has handled many complex and significant product liability, construction, insurance claim and accident cases. He has received numerous awards and honors for his legal excellence and has served on the board of directors of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association since 1990. In 2019 the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his extensive efforts with the organization's legislative committee and his distinguished legal career.
Our Results Speak For Themselves
The attorneys at our law firm have achieved impressive results for our clients. We recovered a $4.69 billion verdict against Johnson & Johnson as part of the trial team for 25 women who were diagnosed with ovarian cancer after using Johnson's Baby Powder. We also achieved an $11.6 million verdict for a 24-year-old client whose injuries from diving into shallow water resulted in the client becoming a quadriplegic. Some law firms may pass your case to an associate or a paralegal, but with us, you will always receive one-on-one support from one of our award-winning lawyers.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
