    Hired Attorney 2018-2020
George Streib contacted me at 9:00 pm 4 days before my final pretrial conference to inform me he was filing a motion to withdraw for "lack of contact." He sent me an email, like he always did, to inform me of the date and time of the pretrial conference. The email stated, like it always did, "do not respond to this email." I paid Mr. Streib in full on our first meeting and showed up to every court date for a year an a half, which you typically don't have to show up for if you have a lawyer representing you just to get another date to be at court. A rough guess would be 15 - 20 days taken off work to never go in front of the judge and just get another date from Mr. Streib. He didn't even know who I was and called me by the wrong name on the second or third court date. He apparently told the judge some fictitious story about my "lack of contact" because when I went in front of him by myself at the final pretrial conference, he seemed very agitated that the case had drug out a year and a half(George Streib's doing) and first refused to let me seek new counsel until the prosecutor informed him he had already granted Mr. Streibs motion to withdraw. As I said before, I paid Mr. Streib in full for proceedings leading up to a trial on the first day we met and planned on paying in full for the fee to go to trial. I was confused to get the text for Mr. Streib telling me he was withdrawing and never getting one saying he needed payment or I would have paid then. I would not recommend Mr. Streib to anybody unless they want to pay somebody a lot of money and take pictures and videos and contact other attorneys to help their own case. HORRIBLE excuse for an attorney, don't waste your money.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
