Hired Law firm 2020-2021If you are considering Katie Cotter, steer clear! She did not work in the interest of her client who was paying the bill! Instead she was working for her deceased husband's grown daughter! Katie did not listen to the wishes of her client, but rather did what she thought was best. In every instance, everything she did was in the best interest and benefited the other party. I'm baffled as to how she is listed as a rising star on the Hart Bell website. She barely deserves a 1 star rating for her blatant disregard to her clients wishes and best interest. Katie chose to work for the interest of the greedy adult daughter instead of her client who lost her husband and her client who is paying the bill! Katie conveniently forgot to add things to the papers to be signed by her late husband's adult children. Had it not been to the tail end of this ordeal, this young rookie, so called "attorney" would have been fired! She honestly makes Hart Bell look very bad. They can do much better! Red flags! Look elsewhere for someone to represent you!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
