Attorney Information

Overview

"I take great pride in supporting clients emotionally during what can be an exceedingly difficult time in their lives. I aim to help clients reach an outcome that allows them to move forward peacefully."

Sierra Meehan Strassberg graduated from Grinnell College in 2010 before receiving her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 2018. She was admitted to practice law in the State of New York in 2019 before moving back to her home state, Iowa, where she was admitted to practice in 2020.

Prior to law school, Sierra worked in restaurant management in New York City. While still in law school as part of the Brooklyn Law School Employment Law Clinic, she advocated for clients seeking Unemployment Benefits and assisted clients with employment conflicts being mediated by the New York City Commission On Human Rights. She was awarded the Silver Pro Bono Award for over 500 hours of pro bono work. Sierra also served as co-president on the board of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund.

Upon graduation, Sierra gravitated towards the area of family law. She worked at a matrimonial law firm in New York City assisting clients in high-stake, contentious divorces.

After being admitted to practice in Iowa, Sierra pursued training as a family law mediator. She is an active member of the American Bar Association, the Iowa State Bar Association, and the Polk County Bar Association.

In her free time, Sierra enjoys reading, films, gardening, exploring new restaurants and volunteering at the Animal Rescue League.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
